The Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) on Tuesday claimed to have set a ‘world record’ by filling 3,433 potholes in the city in just one day, 33 more than the target it had set for itself.

PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh called the massive pothole repair drive ‘a commitment to break the cycle of delays and excuses.’ He added, “This wasn’t just a pothole repair mission — it was a commitment to end the cycle of delays and excuses. Every pothole filled was a message that delivery is possible when the intent is honest.”

In Delhi, the mega repair mission started early Tuesday and lasted till late evening, covering nearly 1,400 km of roads across the city. The area was divided into East, South, and North zones, with over 200 maintenance vans deployed. These vans were equipped with modern tools and high-grade material to ensure long-lasting fixes.

Singh personally visited various sites, checking work progress and interacting with engineers and ground teams. Several MLAs were also seen supervising repairs in their own constituencies.

Officials said that data on potholes was compiled through public complaints, drone mapping, and surveys. The effort saw participation from over 1,000 people, including engineers, supervisors, and workers.

“The timing was critical, with monsoon expected to arrive soon. With this drive, the government aims to significantly reduce the risk of accidents, waterlogging complaints, and commuter discomfort,” The Indian Express quoted an official as saying. He added that the vans will stay active during the rains for on-the-spot repairs.

Further, PWD has set a target of completing repair work on 500 km of road network by next March.
