The Delhi government is racing to complete two crucial flyover projects this year, both part of double-decker viaducts along upcoming Delhi Metro corridors, to ease traffic congestion and boost connectivity.
One of the projects, the city’s first double-decker viaduct between Bhajanpura and Yamuna Vihar on the Maujpur-Majlis Park metro line, is nearly ready, with only the connecting ramp left to be built. TOI cited official as saying that the delay is due to pending tree-cutting permissions, but the four-lane flyover is expected to be operational by July.
The second flyover, part of the RK Ashram Marg-Janakpuri West metro corridor, is being constructed between Azadpur and the Rani Jhansi Road intersection on GT Road. This 2.2 km, 2+2 lane elevated stretch aims to decongest key routes in central and north Delhi, benefiting areas like Derawal Nagar, Vijay Nagar and Rana Pratap Bagh. A fresh allocation of Rs 20 crore was approved earlier this year, with a December 2025 deadline.
As per TOI, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Verma recently reviewed both projects and directed officials to ensure their timely completion. Officials confirmed that the Bhajanpura-Yamuna Vihar viaduct, a joint venture between the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and PWD announced in 2021, is among three such structures under Delhi Metro’s Phase IV expansion. Metro trains will run on the upper deck, while vehicles use the lower deck.
A PWD official was cited by TOI as mentioning that a revised budget has been sought due to cost escalations and is likely to be approved soon. Both projects face geographical challenges due to their locations in densely populated areas. Minister Verma is set to inspect the sites shortly and has asked for a detailed report on these hurdles along with proposed solutions.
