Planning New Year party in Bengaluru? As city prepares to welcome the New Year, the city police have announced a detailed security and crowd-management plan to ensure celebrations remain safe and orderly. With thousands expected to gather at pubs, malls and open streets, police have said they will closely monitor busy areas and public events across the city.

Strict rules for parties and events: Ahead New Year eve, police have directed hotels, pubs, clubs and event organisers to strictly follow safety rules. All New Year celebrations must end by 1 am. Venues without a permanent licence have been told to apply for a temporary permit, which will be issued from 6 am on December 31 till 1 am on January 1.

Crowded nightlife zones: Areas such as MG Road, Brigade Road, Indiranagar, Koramangala, Whitefield, Electronic City, Neeladri Road and major shopping malls are expected to see large crowds. Police teams will be stationed at these locations to regulate entry, manage movement and prevent overcrowding.

Crowd monitoring from elevated points: To keep a close watch on public spaces, watch towers will be set up at key locations. These elevated platforms will help police track crowd behaviour, spot trouble early and respond quickly if any situation gets out of control.

Special measures for women’s safety: Women’s safety has been given special attention this New Year. Dedicated women’s help desks will be placed at busy spots, and more women police officers will be deployed on patrol. Quick Response Teams (QRTs) will be on standby to deal immediately with complaints of harassment or distress.

Zero tolerance for drunk driving: Police have warned that drunk driving, reckless driving and dangerous stunts will invite strict action. Vehicles will be checked at multiple points, and people have been urged to follow capacity rules for private vehicles to avoid accidents and congestion.

Traffic restrictions and transport support: To ensure smooth movement, certain roads will have vehicle restrictions, while 50 flyovers will be closed during peak hours on New Year’s Eve. Metro rail and BMTC bus services will be adjusted to handle increased passenger flow and help people return home safely after celebrations.

Large-scale police deployment: Around 20,000 police personnel will be deployed across Bengaluru, including civil police, traffic police, Karnataka Special Reserve Police, home guards and civil defence volunteers. Special units such as Hoysala patrols, Cobra teams and C-SWAT units will also be part of the security cover.

Mandatory surveillance and checks: All event venues must have CCTV cameras, and the footage must be stored for at least 30 days. Cameras facing public roads should be connected to the police command centre. Organisers have also been instructed to report any drug-related activity immediately.

Emergency response on standby: Police control rooms will function round the clock, supported by ambulances, fire tenders and rapid-response teams. Senior officers have inspected key locations to ensure full preparedness. Citizens have been advised to contact emergency numbers 100 or 112 in case of any trouble during the celebrations.
