Bengaluru police have arrested a 26-year-old actress, her boyfriend and his associate for allegedly murdering her live-in partner in north-west Bengaluru. The incident was uncovered on February 28 when a foul smell emanated from the victim’s house in Vijayalakshmi Layout in the Bagalagunte area.
The victim, Mohan Krishna (29), worked as a pigmy collector and small-time financier. Police said he was stabbed to death after being taken to a secluded place for an alcohol party on February 18.
The arrested accused have been identified as Urvashi, also known as Bindu (26), Vinay Kumar (26), a truck driver, and Dhanush (24), who is self-employed.
"Bindu and Krishna are both married and separated from their respective spouses. They had been in a relationship for nearly a year. Bindu claims to have acted in a few Kannada films and television serials in minor roles, and she also worked as an assistant to directors of tele-serials," an investigating officer was quoted by TOI as saying.
During this time, Bindu allegedly fell in love with Vinay, who is from Bagalagunte. When she informed Krishna that she wanted to marry Vinay, he strongly opposed the decision. Frequent arguments followed, and their landlord eventually came to know that they were not legally married.
Investigators said Bindu and Vinay then decided to eliminate Krishna. They allegedly involved Dhanush, who had suffered financial losses in his hotel business. Police claim Vinay promised him money in return for helping them.
"Accordingly, the trio invited Krishna to an alcohol party at a desolate place. After downing a few pegs, they gagged Krishna and taped his mouth. Then, they stabbed him and fled after his death," an officer was quoted by TOI as saying.
All the three accused have been arrested. The police are questioning them to establish the complete sequence of events and the individual roles in the crime.
