A Telugu couple from Palakollu in Andhra Pradesh’s West Godavari district died in a road accident in the United States, while their two children were injured and are currently receiving treatment, authorities said on Monday.
The crash took place in Washington, where software engineer Krishna Kishore and his wife Asha were travelling by car with their children. Their vehicle was involved in a major collision, killing the couple instantly.
The incident is especially tragic as the family had only recently returned to the US after visiting their hometown.
Just ten days earlier, Krishna Kishore and his family were in Palakollu spending time with relatives. During their journey back to the US, they had a layover in Dubai, where they also celebrated the New Year.
Friends and relatives in Palakollu are deeply shocked, struggling to come to terms with the loss of a family they had so recently met and joyfully sent off.
Members of the Telugu community in Washington, along with the Telugu Association of North America (TANA), are reportedly extending support to the injured children and coordinating arrangements for the repatriation of the couple’s remains.
“They were so happy during their visit just days ago. Hearing this now is unbearable,” a close family friend from Palakollu said.
Meanwhile, the condition of the two children remains the biggest concern for the extended family in India, who are anxiously awaiting further medical updates from US authorities.
