A 100 percent literacy rate, quality education institutions and 78.5 lakh new non-farm jobs a year till 2030 are among the steps India will have to take to be a developed economy by 2047, the Economic Survey has said.
“Viksit Bharat@2047 envisions India as a developed nation by 2047, the centenary of our independence.31 This would entail sustained economic growth of close to 8 per cent every year for at least a decade. To achieve this growth, the investment rate must rise to approximately 35 per cent of GDP, up from the current 31 per cent,” it stated.
According to the survey, these are some of the areas where the state has to step in. “At the same time, when it comes to higher education, the chapter posits that the implementation of the National Education Policy is held back by regulations that are supposedly voluntary but effectively mandatory,” it stated.
The survey stated that the government is working toward meeting the objectives of National Education Policy 2020 through a range of programmes and schemes. These inter-alia include the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, Diksha, Stars, Parakh, PM Shri, Ullas, and PM Poshan among others, According to the survey, 9,400 smart classrooms in 2,300 schools, digital libraries, and Anganwadis have been developed.
The Union Budget 2024-25 allocated Rs 1.48 lakh crore for education, skilling, and employment.
