The entry of Tesla into the Indian market has created a lot of buzz, with Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra welcoming the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer as well as its CEO, Elon Musk, and even expecting to share charging stations.

In a post of X, Mahindra said: "Welcome to India, Elon Musk and Tesla."

"One of the world's largest EV opportunities just got more exciting. Competition drives innovation, and there is plenty of road ahead. Looking forward to seeing you at the charging station," he added.

Tesla opened its maiden showroom in India today, launching the Model Y, the world's best-selling electric car. Entering as a completely built-up (CBU) product, the Model Y is available in the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version.

While the Model Y RWD is priced at Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom), the Model Y Long Range RWD gets a price tag of Rs 67.89 lakh (ex-showroom). As of now, the Model Y can be registered only in Delhi, Gurugram and Mumbai.

While Tesla has started accepting bookings for the Model Y, buyers can get the EV for as low as Rs 61 lakh on the road, depending on the location. Its customer deliveries will start in Q3 2025.

India's largest SUV manufacturer, Mahindra & Mahindra, offers electric SUVs like the XUV400, BE 6 and XEV 9e. The XUV400 is priced between Rs 15.49 lakh and Rs 17.69 lakh (ex-showroom), the BE 6 between Rs 18.90 lakh and Rs 27.65 lakh (ex-showroom) and the XEV 9e between Rs 21.90 lakh and Rs 31.25 lakh (ex-showroom).
