Many sector experts expected Tesla to introduce only the RWD version of the Model Y, which has taken the completely built-up (CBU) route, in India, keeping the price in mind, since India is a price-sensitive market, and any kind of movement in the price or relatively higher price impacts the volume. However, the availability of the Long Range RWD version will give more options to the buyers.

While Tesla's first showroom has come up in Mumbai, the company is expected to open the second showroom in New Delhi. The Model Y will initially be available in Mumbai, Delhi and Gurugram. Its deliveries will start in the third quarter of the calendar year (CY) 2025.

The Tesla Model Y range for the RWD version is claimed to be 500 km on a single full charge. The Long Range RWD version has a better claimed range of 622 km. The range is as per the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Cycle (WLTC).

With its fast charging capability, the Model Y takes only 15 minutes to add a range of up to 238 km for the RWD trim and 267 km for the Long Range RWD trim.

The Model Y RWD can reach 100 kmph from standstill in 5.9 seconds, while the Long Range RWD model takes 5.6 seconds for similar acceleration. The top speed is the same at 201 kmph for both versions.

When it comes to design, it has been kept somewhat minimalistic. This has been done to improve the Model Y's aerodynamics, efficiency and range. However, the vehicle does have quite a few curves and lines to add a touch of sportiness. An all-LED lighting setup is basic for any modern car. The design is accentuated by front and rear LED lightbars. Even the wheels speak of the electric character of the Model Y. The vehicle comes with eight exterior cameras, aiding the driving experience.

At the price point it is being offered, the Model Y has quite a few bells and whistles. The cabin, with its aluminium detailing and premium textiles, is loaded with features like a 15.4-inch front touchscreen infotainment system, 8-inch rear touchscreen, powered front seats with ventilation, powered two-way folding and heated second-row, footwell and door pocket ambient lighting, wrap-around ambient lighting and nine speakers. The second-generation suspension is claimed to reduce noise inside the cabin. It gets Tesla's second-generation hardware to operate the connectivity features.

Adding to the global standards of the Model Y is the laminated safety glass on cabin windows and the roof. The tinted safety glass has a metallic infrared reflective coating across the roof.

The Model Y is available in six colour options -- Stealth Grey, Pearl White Multi-Coat, Diamond Black, Glacier Blue, Quicksilver and Ultra Red. Only Stealth Grey is the standard colour option as buyers will have to pay more for other paint schemes, and the premium can go up to Rs 1,85,000.
