  • Maruti Suzuki Dzire leads 2025 car sales, being the only sedan in top 10 list
  • SUVs hold nearly 55% share of India's passenger vehicle market
  • Maruti Suzuki has six models among the 10 best-selling cars in 2025

In an interesting turn of events, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire sedan is leading the sales chart in India in the calendar year 2025, even as SUVs continue to dominate the overall passenger vehicle (PV) segment with a share of nearly 55%.

While the Dzire is at the top, it is the only sedan among the 10 best-selling PVs in India in CY25 (January to November). The list includes six SUVs, two hatchbacks and one MPV.

Besides, the country's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India, has six models in the 10 largest-selling cars this year, followed by Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles with two, and Mahindra & Mahindra and Hyundai Motor India with one each.

From January to November in CY25, the Dzire has garnered sales of 1,95,416 units and is well on its way to becoming the top-selling car this year. This will only be the second time in 41 years in India that a sedan will be the largest-selling car. The first time was in CY18, with the model being the Dzire only.

Despite increasing competition within the SUV segment, the Hyundai Creta has maintained its dominance with sales of 1,87,968 units in CY25. It is followed by another SUV, the Tata Nexon, at 1,81,186 units.

Even after so many years on being in the market, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR hatchback is still going strong. It has clocked impressive sales of 1,79,663 units during the first 11 months of CY25. It is followed by the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV at 1,75,404 units and the Maruti Suzuki Swift hatchback at 1,70,494 units.

Next four positions belong to SUVs like the Mahindra Scorpio, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Tata Punch.

The Scorpio has had another strong year with sales of 1,61,103 units, followed by the Fronx at 1,59,188 units. The Brezza is next at 1,57,606 units, while the Punch wraps up the top 10 list with sales of 1,57,522 units.
