    Sensex, Nifty gain 1% this week

    Equity benchmarks closed lower higher this week - the 50-share NSE Nifty gained 60.15 points or 1%, to close at 5,884.7. The 30-share BSE Sensex rose 215.41 points or 1.11%, to close at 19,602.23.

    Equity benchmarks closed lower higher this week - the 50-share NSE Nifty gained 60.15 points or 1%, to close at 5,884.7. The 30-share BSE Sensex rose 215.41 points or 1.11%, to close at 19,602.23.


    The BSE Auto Index was up 2.3% and Bankex up 1.2%. Metal Index went up 2%.


    Realty Index was down 1.2% and IT down 0.6%. Capital Goods Index fell 2.3%.


    Among largecaps, HCL Tech shot up 7.5% on strong third quarter numbers. Heavyweight ONGC was up 6.5%. Hindalco, M&M and HUL surged 5%.


    However, BHEL tanked 7%. Hero Honda, Infosys and Grasim were down 2.5-4%.


    In midcap space, Sintex, FAG Bearings, Zensar and Thomas Cook rallied 5-8%. Titan Industries was up 3.3% and Jain Irrigation up 2.1%.

    However, Coromandel International and Finolex Cables were down 4.1%. Ispat, Crompton Greaves and SRF tumbled 2.6-3%.
