The Cabinet on Thursday approved the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas' proposal to increase the number of subsidised LPG cylinders available to households to nine a year from the current cap of six. The price of LPG cylinder will, however, remain unchanged, said Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Veerappa Moily.
The government had on Wednesday sought permission from the Election Commission to hike the cap on subsidised cylinders as three states - Meghalaya, Tripura and Nagaland - will go to polls soon and the model code of conduct is in force.
