India Calls Out Pakistan's 'Hypocrisy,' Demands End To Rights Abuses In PoK

India has issued a sharp rebuke to Pakistan at the UN, demanding that it end the “grave” human rights violations committed by its forces in areas of Kashmir under its illegal occupation.

“In the last few weeks alone, the occupying Pakistani forces and their proxies have killed many innocent civilians who are agitating for their basic rights and freedoms” in parts of Kashmir it occupies,” said Bhavika Managalanandan, a First Secretary at India’s Permanent Mission to the UN, on Friday.

Speaking at the UN General Assembly, Managalanandan said, “We call upon Pakistan to stop the grave and ongoing human rights violations in the areas illegally occupied by it, where the population is in open revolt against Pakistan's military occupation, repression, brutality and illegal exploitation of resources.”

She dismissed Pakistan’s repeated accusations against India at multilateral forums, saying, “Repetitive allegations and lies change neither reality nor the truth,” and added, “Pakistan's double speak and hypocrisy does not deserve the time and attention of this august forum.”

Managalanandan cited the participation of the people of Jammu and Kashmir in democratic processes as evidence of India’s inclusive governance. “We reject attempts by Pakistan to denigrate the people of India and the democratic choices regularly exercised, including by the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” she said. “The social and economic progress experienced by them is evident for all to see.”

Condemning Pakistan’s distortion of the principle of self-determination, she said, “It is unfortunate that Pakistan has resorted to subversion of the principle of self-determination by resorting to false equivalences.”

India reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir, along with Ladakh, are “an integral and inalienable part” of the country.

Referring to Pakistan’s persistent misrepresentation of UN resolutions, Managalanandan noted that the Security Council’s Resolution 47 of April 1948 had called for Pakistan to first withdraw its troops and citizens from all of Kashmir, a condition it has failed to meet to this day.

Reaffirming India’s commitment to human rights, she said it “stems from our freedom struggle led by Mahatma Gandhi, which emphasised non-violence and equality.” The Gandhian legacy, she noted, is reflected in the Indian Constitution, and “India's domestic framework for human rights protection continues to evolve and strengthen.”

She also highlighted that the judiciary, as well as national and state-level human rights commissions, play a vital role in safeguarding fundamental rights.
