The Siang Butterfly Watching 2024, a major highlight of the Siang Eco Adventure Festival, successfully concluded on December 1. Over the course of four days, this event celebrated the discovery of 96 unique butterfly species, showcasing the incredible biodiversity of the Siang region.

This year’s event revealed a stunning variety of butterfly species, emphasizing Siang’s rich and diverse ecosystem. Among the notable discoveries were rare species like the Singleton and Myanmar Quaker, alongside more common, yet equally beautiful butterflies such as the Common Peacock, Paris Peacock, and Common Onyx. These species highlight Siang as a biodiversity hotspot and a must-visit for nature lovers.

Siang Butterfly Watching 2024 attracted participants from across India, including nature enthusiasts from Karnataka, Delhi, Kerala, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu. Additionally, international participants from far-off destinations like Tanzania joined in, further emphasizing the global interest in exploring Siang’s natural beauty. The event offered an exciting opportunity for visitors to engage in nature walks and educational workshops.

The organisers have committed to leveraging the event's findings for developing strategic conservation efforts, aimed at protecting Siang’s butterfly species. A significant aspect of the event was promoting eco-tourism, with the goal of positioning Siang as a premier destination for butterfly tourism in India.

To further strengthen this mission, community outreach initiatives were held in local schools such as Pangin Senior Secondary School, Kasurba Gandhi School, and Yemsing Village, where programs focused on eco-tourism awareness and conservation responsibility were conducted.

With its flourishing biodiversity and active conservation initiatives, Siang is well on its way to becoming a key destination for butterfly tourism in India. The success of the Siang Butterfly Watching 2024 event marks the beginning of a promising future for eco-tourism and wildlife preservation in the region, further enhancing Siang's reputation as a top eco-tourism destination.
