Spring has arrived in colour in Palampur, with the town’s tulip garden officially opening to the general public. Developed at the CSIR complex along the Pathankot–Mandi National Highway, the garden is located around 2 km from Palampur and is already emerging as a major seasonal draw for travellers and nature lovers.
The tulip garden has been created by the CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (CSIR-IHBT) and marks a significant milestone.
50,000 Tulips in Full Bloom
Spread across the scenic premises of CSIR-IHBT, the garden features 50,000 tulip bulbs across six varieties, blooming in vibrant shades of red, yellow, pink, purple, white and multi-colour patterns. Carefully cultivated under mid-Himalayan agro-climatic conditions, the flowers create a striking contrast against the Dhauladhar mountain backdrop.
A Blend of Science, Sustainability and Tourism
Addressing visitors at the opening, Dr Sudesh Kumar Yadav, Director of CSIR-IHBT, described the garden as a successful blend of science-led innovation, advanced horticultural research, farmer participation and public outreach. He called the initiative a “living laboratory” showcasing how ornamental horticulture can become a sustainable livelihood option for farmers in Himalayan states.
The project highlights CSIR-IHBT’s ongoing research in bulbous ornamental crops and floriculture technologies tailored specifically for hill regions.
Boost to Scientific and Eco-Tourism in Himachal
The tulip garden is expected to attract a large number of visitors from within Himachal Pradesh and other parts of the country, giving a fresh push to scientific tourism, eco-tourism and environmental awareness in the region.
Its growing popularity is already evident—over one lakh visitors from across India visited the garden last year, making it one of Palampur’s most important seasonal attractions.
A Limited-Time Spring Experience
The Tulip Garden will remain open only during the blooming season, offering a short window to witness world-class floriculture nurtured through Indian scientific research. With neat floral patterns, crisp mountain air and panoramic views, the garden offers more than just photo opportunities—it delivers a calm, immersive spring experience.
For travellers planning a trip to Himachal this season, Palampur’s tulip garden adds a new reason to visit—where science meets nature in full bloom.
