Indian nationals in Kuwait must follow new passport photo rules from September 2025.

The Indian Embassy in Kuwait has announced that starting September 1, 2025, only International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)-compliant passport photographs will be accepted for passport applications. Indian nationals applying for passports in Kuwait must adhere to the new guidelines to ensure smooth processing and avoid rejection.

The embassy issued an official advisory on its social media X account, urging citizens to follow the updated photo standards carefully. These changes align with ICAO regulations, aimed at enhancing global uniformity, security, and clarity in passport documentation.

Key Updates to Passport Photo Guidelines

Applicants must ensure their passport photos meet the following ICAO-compliant requirements:

  • Dimensions: 630×810 pixels in color (black & white photos will not be accepted).
  • Face coverage: 80–85% of the photo should show a close-up of the head and shoulders.
  • Background: Plain white, free from shadows or patterns.
  • Expression: Neutral facial expression with a direct gaze, eyes open, and mouth closed.
  • Lighting: Even lighting with no reflections, glare, or red-eye.
  • Image quality: Clear, natural, and unaltered.
  • Glasses: Must be removed to avoid glare and ensure the eyes are clearly visible.

Photos that fail to meet these requirements will result in application rejection.

Additional Embassy Requirements

Beyond the general ICAO standards, the Indian Embassy in Kuwait has highlighted:

  • No Editing or Manipulation: Passport photos must be genuine and unaltered. Digital edits to change appearance or background are not allowed.
  • Head Coverings: Religious coverings are acceptable, but they must not obscure facial features or cast shadows.

Why Compliance Matters

Following the updated passport photo rules is crucial for:

  • Avoiding delays: Non-compliant photos lead to rejected applications, causing unnecessary delays.
  • Smooth processing: Compliant photos streamline the application process, making international travel documentation faster and easier.
  • Meeting international standards: Adherence to ICAO guidelines ensures that passports are accepted globally without issues.

As the new rules come into effect from September 1, 2025, Indian nationals in Kuwait must take extra care to follow the updated passport photo standards. By ensuring their photos meet ICAO requirements and embassy-specific guidelines, applicants can confidently submit their applications and secure hassle-free processing.

Staying informed, planning ahead, and using professional services for compliant passport photos will save time, avoid complications, and ensure your journey begins smoothly.
