Yakuza 3 Gaiden Dark Ties is a brand-new game that will launch as part of a single bundle with Yakuza Kiwami 3. Published by Sega, the newly announced chapter in the Yakuza series by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio focusses on the character of Yoshitaka Mine from Yakuza 3.

Yakuza 3 Gaiden Dark Ties is about how Yoshitaka Mine–Kazuma Kiryu’s antagonist in Yakuza 3– joins the underworld and rises through the ranks of the Tojo Clan. Yoshitaka does not come from a crime family. Earlier in his life, he founded a startup in 2007, and it became a success. However, that success was short-lived; Mine was betrayed by his partner, whom he trusted a lot. Consequently, Mine loses everything.

While wandering the streets, he witnesses the rivalry between yakuza factions. He watches a man named Daigo Dojima sacrifice his life for his boss, and this behaviour intrigues him. Yoshitaka wants to understand why someone would go beyond the business principles of profit and loss and lay down his life for someone he is only professionally connected to.
