WhatsApp added Chat Lock feature to the platform in order to keep chats secure and away from prying eyes. To make things more private, the Meta-owned instant messaging platform also added a Secret Code that users can assign to the Chat Lock folder and access them by simply searching them on the app.

Now, if you use the Chat Lock feature then you know that all the locked chats are tucked away within a dedicated Locked Chat folder at the top of all the chats and that can give away the fact that you’ve some chats locked in your WhatsApp.

Secret Code on WhatsApp, as already mentioned, allows users to set a custom password for their locked chats. Not only that, this also lets users assign a custom name for locked chats and hide it from the top of the app. So, this makes it a little difficult to find the locked chats for others.

Once the Secret Code is assigned to locked chats, users need to search the code in the app to access it. If someone types the code wrong, the locked chats remain hidden with no other way to access them.

Start with locking some chats in WhatsApp. To do this, head to the chat you want to lock, tap on the three dots at the top right and choose ‘Lock Chat’ option.

Once some chats are locked, follow these steps.

Open WhatsApp and access Locked Chats folder

Now, tap on three dots from the top right corner and choose Chat lock settings

Select Secret code option

Now, enter a code of your choice (or the one you can remember)

Tap Next and re-enter the code

Tap Done to set the code

That’s it! The Secret code is now set up for your locked chats. Now, you can go ahead and hide your locked chats. For this, head to the WhatsApp Chat lock settings page, tap the toggle next to the Hide locked chats option.

First and foremost, doing this will make it harder to access locked chats, even for you, as you’ll need to enter the code each time to access them.

If someone knows your secret code, they can access these chats.

If you forget the code, then there’s no way to retrieve them, if you don’t have a backup.
