A Pakistani tourist couple in China drew widespread attention after leaving their infant twins with a security guard so they could explore a mountain park. A video of the incident went viral on social media platforms, triggering a debate on whether parents can afford to be so carefree while travelling.
According to a report by South China Morning Post (SCMP), the couple, believed to be in their late 20s or early 30s, asked the security guard at Qianling Mountain Park in Guiyang to watch over their two five‑month‑old babies while they took a cable‑car ride. Their limited Chinese meant the exchange was brief, and they walked off without leaving contact details.
Chinese visitors calm babies, change nappy
The twins — a boy and a girl — lay in their strollers wearing pink hats and bundled blankets. Their cries soon attracted a small group of local visitors. One woman gently rocked a stroller, another tucked in a blanket, while the guard Chen Daying began feeding the babies with their bottles.
As the crying persisted, Chen realised one baby had soiled her nappy. With her hands “icy cold,” she asked a nearby woman for help. The nappy was changed, and the crying stopped. One of the babies even “coughed up milk” on her, which onlookers found to be endearing.

Parents return after an hour
About an hour later, the couple returned, ice creams in hand, thanked everyone in Chinese, and took their children. Chen later told local media that the parents “just wanted to explore the park” and that, as both a security guard and grandmother, she simply prioritised the babies’ safety.
Netizens split between admiration and concern
The babies' story received more than 22 million views on Chinese social media, SCMP reported. While many praised the kindness of local visitors and Chen’s quick response, some criticised the couple for being “too carefree,” noting that such behaviour could be unsafe elsewhere. One popular comment read, “The foreign couple came to see the monkeys, but the locals came to see the babies.”
