Elon Musk doesn't want Bill Gates to babysit his kids: Here’s why

An old video of Elon Musk saying he wouldn’t trust Bill Gates to babysit his kids is viral again. The remark links back to Gates’ past ties with Jeffrey Epstein and their ongoing feud over USAID.

  • Musk criticizes Gates' comments on USAID, calling him a "huge liar"
  • Gates has apologized for his past association with Jeffrey Epstein

If there was ever an award for internet drama that refuses to retire, Elon Musk vs Bill Gates would win it every single year. This week, an old clip of Musk is back on social media, mostly on X, and it has revived the feud between the two billionaires. The reason this time? Kids, criticism, and an uncomfortable name from the past—Jeffrey Epstein.

In the resurfaced video, Musk is speaking at a conference and he questions Gates’ opinions on child welfare. He brings up Gates’ old connection with Epstein, a man who was convicted of serious crimes involving young girls. Musk says, “Who does Bill Gates think he is to comment on the welfare of children, given that he frequented Jeffrey Epstein?” The crowd cheers loudly, like they were waiting for someone to say it out loud. Then Musk drops the line that the internet has now turned into a headline: “I wouldn’t want that guy to babysit my kid.”

That one sentence didn’t come from nowhere. It was Musk’s reply to Gates criticizing his decision to shut USAID last year. USAID is an agency that used to send money and help to poorer countries. Gates, who runs one of the world’s biggest charity foundations, said that stopping USAID funding would hurt children the most. He warned that millions could die because resources would reduce. In one interview, Gates said, “The picture of the world’s richest man killing the world’s poorest children is not a pretty one.” He meant Musk, without naming him directly.

Musk clearly didn’t like that. He called Gates a “huge liar,” saying the warnings were exaggerated and meant to scare people. Gates repeated the numbers in other interviews too, claiming deaths could rise into the millions because of lack of resources.

The awkward part? Gates has already apologized publicly for his time with Epstein. The moderator at the forum pointed this out too. Gates had said earlier, “It was a huge mistake to spend time with him, to give him credibility.” He explained that he met Epstein hoping he could connect him to people who would donate more money for global health. When it became clear that Epstein’s promises weren’t real, Gates ended the relationship.

The fight isn’t really about babysitting, of course. It’s about trust. It’s about who gets to lecture whom. Gates talks like someone trying to protect the world. Musk talks like someone trying to fix it, even if people get upset along the way. And the internet? It’s just happy the Wi-Fi is strong enough to stream the drama again.
