Samsung is reportedly preparing to launch its first tri-fold smartphone later this year — and it could be powered by next-gen silicon-carbon battery tech. According to leaker PandaFlash (via Android Headlines), the foldable device will use a new high-density battery that delivers more power in less space, allowing Samsung to maintain a slim form factor without sacrificing battery life.
While the tri-fold’s battery may fall below 5,000mAh to preserve portability, the silicon-carbon chemistry should match the performance of bulkier lithium-ion packs. This marks a potential turning point for Samsung’s mobile lineup, especially as thinner designs take priority across its Galaxy series. Rumors already suggest the Galaxy S26, expected next year, may also benefit from this battery innovation.
While other smartphone makers — including OnePlus, Xiaomi, and Oppo — already use silicon-carbon batteries, Samsung’s adoption could signal a broader shift in mainstream mobile design.
Codenamed the Galaxy G Fold, the tri-fold device is said to feature a G-shaped folding mechanism with two inward folds — shielding its large internal display when closed. The main screen is expected to measure around 9.96 inches when unfolded, expanding from a 6.49-inch cover display. That would make it one of the largest foldables on the market, inching toward tablet territory.
Design cues are reportedly borrowed from the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7, including speaker components and hinge refinements. But the tri-fold’s unique dual-fold structure will likely require a new hinge solution to ensure flat unfolding and durability.
On the camera front, Samsung is expected to include a versatile multi-lens system with at least one under-display camera on the main screen — continuing its push for a seamless foldable experience. The Galaxy G Fold may be unveiled in July 2025.
