OpenAI recently unveiled the ChatGPT-4o Voice Mode a few months ago, and now a cryptic tweet by the company’s CEO Sam Altman seems to be teasing the next big upgrade to the popular chatbot. On Wednesday, he shared a photo of some strawberries on social media platform X, accompanied by a cryptic comment that said, "i love summer in the garden."
This tweet has been construed as a confirmation that OpenAI is indeed working on ‘Project Strawberry,’ with several reports in the last few months confirming this project. Incidentally, ‘Project Strawberry’ was earlier known as Project Q* (read as Q-Star), an AI model with significant advancements in terms of reasoning capabilities.
After this tweet, several users have reacted with different theories and speculations regarding the upcoming GPT-5 large language model (LLM). This was also confirmed by Bindu Reddy, CEO of open-source AI startup Abacus AI, weighing in that Altman’s post was a “reference to Project Strawberry.”
An exclusive report from Reuters last month also said that GPT-5 or ‘Project Strawberry’ could operate more independently from a human. It would be able to find an answer to any question but could also do follow-up research. This would present it with a more human-like approach, rather than just giving autonomous answers.
Based on what we know so far, with ‘Project Strawberry,’ the upcoming GPT-5 model could also perform tasks like planning a series of tasks over a certain period. It is aimed at improving AI capabilities by leaps, and analysis and interpretation of that data, to provide users with more accurate information.
