Nothing has announced the Phone (3a) Community Edition, a limited-run smartphone developed under its Community Edition Project, an initiative that invites talented fans to help shape real products. The 2025 programme spans hardware, software, accessories and marketing, reflecting the company’s approach of building products with its community rather than simply seeking feedback. Nothing received more than 700 submissions this year, demonstrating a growing appetite among creators who want to collaborate more deeply with tech brands.

The Phone (3a) Community Edition is the result of contributions from four emerging creators selected for their originality and ability to extend Nothing’s design language.

The hardware and packaging, designed by Emre Kayganacl, take inspiration from late 90s and early 2000s tech aesthetics, offering a nostalgic yet futuristic visual identity. In accessories, a new category this year, Ambrogio Tacconi and Louis Aymonod introduced the Dice — an object that incorporates Nothing’s Ndot 55 font and draws from global symbols of play.

For software, designer Jad Zock created a custom lock screen clock that uses multiple font weights to reduce visual clutter, along with four exclusive wallpapers that bridge the device’s exterior colours with the interface. The marketing campaign, ‘Made Together’, created by Sushruta Sarkar, celebrates the collaborative process and represents the essence of community-driven creation.

Nothing says this model of co-creation extends beyond product development, supported by initiatives like the elected Community Board Observer and a new $5 million community investment round at its $1.3 billion Series C valuation. Early access for investors opens on 10 December, with public access starting 11 December.

The Phone (3a) Community Edition is based on the Phone (3a) 12+256GB variant, with only 1,000 units to be produced globally. Priced at Rs 28,999, it will be available in India exclusively at a special drop event on 13 December 2025 at 33&Brew, Prestige Technostar, Bengaluru, between 2PM and 6PM IST.
