Microsoft is reportedly planning another big round of job cutsand this time, people in the sales department could be among the most affected.

According to a report by Bloomberg, the tech giant may lay off thousands of employees in the coming weeks. The cuts are expected to be announced early next month, right after the company’s financial year ends. While the sales team might see the biggest impact, the layoffs may not be limited to just one department.

This move follows Microsoft’s last round of layoffs in May, which saw about 6,000 employees lose their jobs. As of June last year, Microsoft had around 2.28 lakh workers globally.

So, what’s behind these cuts? It all seems to come down to Microsoft’s growing focus on artificial intelligence (AI). The company is pouring huge investments into AI, including an $80 billion budget this year—most of it going into building new data centers. These are essential for running AI tools and services that the company wants to scale up quickly.

While Microsoft hasn’t officially confirmed the upcoming layoffs, the news reflects a trend we’re seeing across the tech world. As AI becomes a bigger part of how businesses operate, companies are rethinking the kind of workforce they need.

Even Amazon’s CEO recently hinted that AI will likely reduce the need for as many corporate jobs in the future.

For now, Microsoft employees are waiting to see how this unfolds. And while AI may be the future, it seems it’s also bringing some tough changes along the way.
