Satya Nadella called it the new era of AI. So it came as no surprise to see Microsoft unveil a slew of new AI features for Windows 11. “We are at an inflection point where the PC will accelerate AI innovation. We believe the richest AI experiences will only be possible when the cloud and device work together in concert,” said Yusuf Mehdi, chief consumer marketing officer, Microsoft. Some of the key AI-powered features coming to Windows 11 include:
Live Captions and real-time translationsOn Windows 11, Live Captions can now translate more than 40 languages into English, including speakers in real-time video calls, recordings and streamed content.
Windows Studio EffectsVideo calls haven’t gone anywhere and keeping that in mind Microsoft is introducing AI features with Windows Studio effects. Users get features like flattering portrait lighting, creative filters and natural-looking eye contact, while enhanced noise canceling, and background blur shut out distraction. These features will be available in Quick Settings.
Making search better in WindowsOn Copilot+ PCs, users will get the new Recall feature, which basically can find almost anything you’ve seen on your desktop. “Just describe it using text or visual search, and Recall will show you snapshots of the most relevant content in a way that feels like having photographic memory,” said Keena Grigsby, general manager, Windows marketing.
Arm processors to make Windows PCs more efficientAll the Copilot+ PCs in the first wave feature the Snapdragon X Elite Arm processors from Qualcomm which improve the battery life and makes them more efficient. Microsoft also revealed a new Prism emulator for app compatibility and performance. This will ensure that older apps based on on x86 and x64. Microsoft has also worked with developers across the globe to optimise their applications for this new processor.
