Transferring files between an iPhone and Windows PC has never been easier. And, Microsoft has finally decided to address it with a new feature that enables seamless file sharing between iPhone and Windows 11 or Windows 10 PCs via Phone Link and Link to Windows apps.
The update aims to simplify cross-device functionality for users working across Apple’s iOS and Microsoft’s operating systems like Windows 11.
File transfer between iPhone and Windows PCs
As mentioned, the feature allows users to seamlessly transfer files, documents, etc between an iPhone and Windows PCs and vice-versa. To use the file-sharing feature, users need an iPhone running iOS 16 or higher, the Link to Windows app (version 1.24112.73 or higher), and Phone Link version 1.24112.89.0 or higher. Participation in the Windows Insider Program is also required for early access to this feature.
The feature can be set up during the Phone Link installation process or by visiting aka.ms/addAccount on a PC for users who have already paired their devices. Once configured, it allows two-way file sharing between iPhones and PCs.
Sharing files from iPhone to PC:
1. Locate the desired file on your iPhone.
2. Tap the share icon and select “Link to Windows.”
3. Choose the connected Windows PC to send the file.
Sharing files from PC to iPhone:
1. Select the file or files on your Windows PC.
2. Right-click and select “Share,” then choose “My Phone” or “Phone Link.”
Availability
This feature is currently being gradually rolled out and is only available to users registered in the Windows Insider Program. It requires compatible devices and apps to be up to date.
