Performance and hardware differences

The biggest difference between the two laptops is the processor. The MacBook Neo uses the A18 Pro chip, a processor derived from Apple’s mobile silicon architecture. The MacBook Air uses the M5 chip, which is part of Apple’s Mac-class processors designed for laptops and desktops.

The M-series chip generally delivers higher sustained performance for macOS workloads such as coding tools, creative software, and multitasking. The MacBook Air also includes a Force Touch trackpad, which supports pressure-sensitive inputs and additional gestures.

Display and build differences

The MacBook Air also offers a larger 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display, compared to the 13-inch Liquid Retina panel on the MacBook Neo. While both support the same general display technology, the Air provides slightly more screen space for productivity tasks. Also, there's no notch on the MacBook Neo which may attract some buyers.

More RAM and storage options

What makes this proposition more interesting is RAM and storage options. The MacBook Neo is limited to 8GB RAM only. On the other hand, the Air M5 comes with 16GB as the base RAM. And, M5 can be configured with up to 32GB RAM. Also, the storage on the Neo is capped at 512GB. But, the base variant has 256GB storage and can go up to 4TB. That said, the base configuration might not sound like a big difference between the two. For people who want more the M5 offers more options.

What the extra Rs 50,000 buys

Spending more on the MacBook Air M5 primarily adds:

  • Apple’s M5 Mac-class processor

  • A larger display

  • Force Touch trackpad

  • Laptop-grade performance for sustained workloads

For buyers focused on everyday browsing, streaming, and light productivity, the MacBook Neo may cover most needs. Those planning to run heavier macOS apps may benefit from the MacBook Air M5.
