It is expected that Apple will launch the new models of iPhone in September. Ahead of the launch of the iPhone 16 series, it has been reported that Foxconn — one of Apple’s biggest manufacturing partners — has ramped up production. Reports have suggested that there could be a higher demand for the iPhone 16 series. In order to meet that anticipated high demand for the upcoming iPhone 16, Foxconn has hired an additional 50,000 workers at its Zhengzhou factory in China.
According to a report by Business Korea, the recruitment drive is part of a broader strategy to ensure the timely release of the iPhone 16, scheduled for mid-September.
Furthermore, the report suggests that Foxconn has increased both base pay and bonuses to attract new workers. The Zhengzhou factory, often referred to as “iPhone City,” is responsible for around 80% of global iPhone production
Earlier reports have suggested that the production of the iPhone 16 began in June, with mass manufacturing ramping up significantly in July. A report by Bloomberg stated that Apple aims to produce 90 million units of the iPhone 16 this year.
One of the reasons why Apple is expecting a bigger demand for iPhone 16 is advanced AI capabilities which the models will bring. Apple showcased Apple Intelligence features which will be available on the iPhone 16 series. Only the iPhone 15 Pro models will get AI features and no other older iPhones. Which is why Apple — and Foxconn — are scaling up production as they expect more people will go for the newer iPhone models in 2024.
The iPhone 16 series is expected to have four models, including the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. These models will feature larger displays, faster processors, and improved camera systems. Apple's betting big on Apple Intelligence features being the major draw for iPhone buyers.
