Government issues warning for Google Chrome on Windows and Mac devices, asks users to do this immediately

Government has issued a “High” severity warning for the Google Chrome web browser. CERT-In, the government agency that notifies about security flaws, bugs, and issues with apps and services, has reported finding multiple vulnerabilities within some versions of Chrome.

According to the government body, Chrome has some security flaws that can enable scammers to execute a remote attack on the system by bypassing the device's security.

With the existing security flaws, Chrome can let attackers execute “arbitrary codes” on the targeted system. This can compromise devices security and grant attackers privileged access to the system and data. What this means is that attackers can not only access the system, but also the sensitive data stored on the device such as password, baking details, address etc. Which can then lead to financial frauds, banking frauds and more.

The existing security flaws in Chrome affect Chrome versions prior to 128.0.6613.119/.120 for Windows and Mac Google Chrome versions prior to 128.0.6613.119 for Linux.

Government body has advised Chrome users running the said versions of Chrome to install and update the browser to the latest version available.

The good news is that Google has already started rolling out the Chrome 128 update across all the platforms including Windows, Mac and Linux.

Step 1: Open Google Chrome and click on three dots at the top right corner

Step 2: Click on Help and then select “About Chrome”

Step 3: Chrome will check for update and install it automatically

Step 4: Restart when asked to update Chrome
