Amid reports of a disruption in the supply of commercial LPG cylinders in Bengaluru, a message purportedly from a law school claiming that the hostel mess would temporarily stop serving extra chicken and paneer has gone viral on social media.
The message, which began circulating on WhatsApp and was later shared on X by a handle named Shut up NLU, suggested that the decision was linked to recent geopolitical tensions affecting gas supply. According to the message, the mess management informed students that due to “recent geopolitical developments in the Middle East,” Indian Oil Corporation had not been able to supply LPG stock for the past few days.
The ongoing Middle East War has stopped India's Best Law School - NLSIU from giving us Chicken and Paneer, also Dosa 😭 No one knows when we will get chicken and paneer again 😭 pic.twitter.com/C7zA9RU5X8— Shut Up NLU (@ttylac) March 9, 2026
The notice, addressed to students, stated that the hostel mess would temporarily suspend the serving of extra chicken and paneer during dinner. It also said that food items such as dosa and rolls at the Training Centre canteen would remain unavailable until further notice. The message asked students to cooperate and understand the situation until supplies return to normal.
The viral post also included a comment from a user claiming to be a student at the university. The user wrote that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East had resulted in the institution temporarily stopping extra servings of chicken and paneer in the hostel mess and that students were unsure when the items would be available again.
Moneycontrol could not independently verify the authenticity of the notice or confirm whether it was officially issued by the university.
Bengaluru restaurants face heat
The viral message surfaced at a time when the city’s hotel industry has raised concerns over a sudden shortage of commercial LPG cylinders. The Bengaluru Hotels Association on March 9 warned that restaurants across the city could suspend operations if the supply disruption continues.
In a press release, the association said that the halt in commercial LPG supply from Monday had severely affected hotels and eateries. It described the hospitality sector as an essential service that provides meals to a large section of the public.
According to the association, many people including senior citizens, students and patients depend on restaurants for their daily food, and any disruption in gas supply would cause major inconvenience to both businesses and consumers.
