Google’s Gemini AI is evolving rapidly, moving far beyond its early viral fame for generating quirky “Nano Banana” portraits and action figures. The latest upgrade adds serious productivity muscle, the ability to automatically generate full-fledged presentations within seconds using its built-in Canvas tool.
While the Canvas tool has existed in Gemini for some time, this new presentation feature is being rolled out gradually to users. With it, Gemini can now take a research paper, report, or any uploaded document and instantly convert it into a complete, structured slide deck. Users can also create presentations directly from text prompts, skipping file uploads altogether.
The AI assistant not only drafts slide content but also applies consistent formatting, themes, and visual structure, effectively creating ready-to-use decks in a matter of seconds. Initially, this feature is available to Gemini Advanced (Pro) subscribers, but Google says it will reach all users in the coming weeks.
How to create a presentation using Gemini
Once the update is available, users simply need to open the Gemini Canvas tool, upload a document or provide a topic, and type a command such as “Create a 10-slide presentation summarising this research paper.” Gemini will then automatically generate a complete presentation, complete with titles, key points, and suggested visuals.
If the feature has reached your account, try experimenting with structured prompts like:
“Create an educational presentation on climate change for high school students, with causes, effects, and solutions.”
“Build a 12-slide product launch deck covering problem, solution, roadmap, pricing, and risks.”
“Draft a 9-slide onboarding guide for new users of [product], including setup steps and pitfalls.”
“Generate a 6-slide case study covering client context, solution, and measurable results.”
Beyond formatting slides, Gemini uses context-aware summarisation to prioritise important ideas and arrange them logically. This makes it useful for educators, product teams, and marketers who want professional-looking decks without spending hours designing slides.
Early enterprise testers say the tool could reshape workflow efficiency by removing repetitive tasks like slide drafting or manual summarisation. However, the rollout remains limited — even some Google Workspace Enterprise users have yet to receive the update.
