It might not be talked about or even used as much as ChatGPT, Copilot or Gemini AI but Grok has been making its presence felt on social media platform X. Now, Elon Musk has a rather radical idea about how people consume news. In an interview, Musk said that he believes that most people want to know about news by listening to what other people have to say about it and not reading or listening to it. That’s why X introduced a new feature called Stories, powered by Grok AI. “See what the world is talking about with Stories on X, curated by @grok. Now available for Premium subscribers in the Explore tab!,” said the social media platform in a post on X.

As of now, the feature is available only for Premium subscribers on web and iOS. “Stories aims to offer quick overviews of trending topics, blending news with commentary,” a post on X noted.

“As more information becomes  available, the news summary will update to include that information,”  Musk said in the interview. “The goal is simple: to provide maximally accurate and  timely information, citing the most significant sources.”

How does the Stories feature work?

Grok AI utilises advanced algorithms to deliver the essence of social media content, offering users a quick and digestible format to stay informed. So, users will see short summaries of a news item based on what people are saying about it.

Musk explained in the interview that Grok will not actually go deep into the article text but rely on social media posts about the articles and what people are saying. “It’s summarising what people say  on X,” he said.

It is a rather different take on delivering news to people as a lot of posts on X seem to have a bias, some have irrelevant content and some are just pointless. This is where Musk wants Grok AI to step in and be intelligent enough to get the right summary and not use incoherent comments. “Grok can make mistakes, verify its outputs,” is the general disclaimer which all AI chatbots bring. In this case, however, mistakes can produce misleading information to the readers.
