Swiggy has released its New Year’s Eve 2025 report, highlighting how India rang in 2026 with record-breaking food orders and a sharp rise in dining-out activity across cities. The data captures food ordering and restaurant booking trends from December 31, 2025, offering insights into consumer preferences during one of the busiest nights of the year.

What India ordered on New Year’s Eve

Biryani emerged as the most ordered dish on Swiggy during New Year’s Eve celebrations. According to the report, the platform recorded nearly 2.19 lakh biryani orders before 7:30 pm, with order volumes peaking at over 1,300 biryanis per minute around 8 pm. One customer in Bhubaneswar placed a single order for 16 kilograms of biryani, reflecting the scale of group celebrations.

The long-standing preference battle between pizza and burgers also played out on the platform. By 8:30 pm, Swiggy had delivered over 2.18 lakh pizzas and around 2.16 lakh burgers, indicating near-equal demand for both items. Cakes, pizzas and biryanis were among the top trending items during the early evening hours.

Orders, desserts and unusual trends

Individual ordering patterns stood out alongside overall volumes. A customer in Bengaluru placed an order for 100 burgers, while a user in Goa ordered 39 portions of kebabs and tikkas. In Nagpur, one customer placed more than 93 orders throughout the day, and in Surat, a single user ordered from 22 different restaurants on December 31.

Desserts saw increased demand later in the night. Rasmalai, gajar halwa and gulab jamun were among the most ordered desserts around 10:30 pm. Pizza also emerged as the most ordered food item to begin 2026.

Dining out sees strong growth

Swiggy Dineout recorded a surge in festive dining. Bengaluru and Hyderabad led overall bookings, while Ahmedabad saw a 1.6x increase in dine-out reservations. Lucknow and Jaipur also reported higher bookings compared to last year, indicating growing participation from emerging cities.

The report suggests that Indians chose a mix of ordering in and stepping out to celebrate New Year’s Eve, marking one of Swiggy’s busiest nights to date.
