The Apple iPhone 16 series is set to launch sometime in September, with the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. We can also expect major upgrades in terms of AI features and hardware as well from this upcoming smartphone series. Now, a latest report and hands-on video by AppleInsider hints at the camera features expected on the upcoming iPhone lineup.
Apple iPhone 16 series camera features: Key details
According to a new report and hands-on video posted by AppleInsider, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will have vertically-aligned dual-camera lenses, instead of the diagonal arrangement in the previous two series. Moreover, the primary camera will include a 48MP sensor with an f/1.6 aperture and 2X optical zoom, while the secondary ultra-wide camera will offer 0.5X zoom with an improved f/2.2 aperture.
If we talk about the iPhone 16 Pro series, it is said to carry a triple rear camera setup including a 48MP primary camera, an ultra-wide camera, and a telephoto camera. The primary sensor like the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, could have f/1.78 aperture and 2x optical zoom.
However, the biggest change could be the inclusion of 5X optical zoom support for both iPhone 16 Pro models, unlike the previous generation devices, where only the iPhone 15 Pro Max had support for this. The ultra-wide lens on the Pro models will also be upgraded to a 48MP sensor, matching the primary camera’s pixel-binning functionality.
The report also adds that Apple will include a new Capture button to instantly shoot images or record videos from the camera app. It will be a physical capacitive button and have support for a force-sensitive half-press feature for actions like locking exposure, focus adjustment, zoom in and out, and more.
We can also expect to see a new image format named JPEG-XL with the iPhone 16 series alongside the existing HEIF, JPEG, HEIF Max, ProRaw, and ProRAW Max image formats.
