Apple to scale up iPhone 16 production, bets big on AI features

Apple is expected to launch the upcoming iPhone 16 series in September. With the help of Apple Intelligence in iOS 18, the company plans to ship more than 90 million iPhone 16 models in 2024 alone.

Apple is preparing to launch the iPhone 16 series of devices in September this year. Last month, at the WWDC event, the Cupertino-based tech giant also announced the iOS 18 update, which will be powering the upcoming iOS 16 models. The iOS 18 update has also included the much-awaited Apple Intelligence features, Apple’s generative AI features.

Now, according to a new report by Bloomberg, Apple with the help of its Apple Intelligence features plans to boost the demand for the upcoming iPhone 16 series. The company is set to produce 90 million iPhone 16 devices in 2024, a significant 10% increase over last year’s iPhone 15 series production.

This would mark a 10 percent shipment growth from 2023 when the company shipped approximately 81 million iPhone 15 models. The iPhone 15 base variants like the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 smartphones don’t support Apple Intelligence features. Hence, the iPhone 16 base models should be powered by the Apple A17 Pro chipset, which supports generative AI features.

Therefore, with the formal introduction of Apple Intelligence, the company expects it to become a significant feature post iPhone 16 series launch. Apple also hopes that many users will want to buy those smartphones to experience these AI features.

Apple Intelligence features include novice tools such as Writing Tools for proofreading and summarising text, Image Playground for creating images, and Genmoji for making custom emojis that will allow users to create custom emojis by typing descriptions.
