iPhone 17 Pro pushes charging speeds to a new high with 36W support

ChargerLAB testing shows the iPhone 17 Pro Max reaching peak wired charging speeds of 36W with Apple’s 40W adapter. With the iPhone 17 Pro lineup now reaching 36W, users get quicker turnaround times without needing to rely on third-party accessories.

Apple’s latest Pro models are delivering another noticeable leap in charging performance. New testing from ChargerLAB shows that the iPhone 17 Pro Max can now hit peak speeds of up to 36W, marking another year of steady gains in an area where Apple traditionally moves slowly.

Last year’s iPhone 16 Pro topped out at around 30W, which was itself a clear improvement over the iPhone 15 Pro. This year’s jump represents roughly a 20 percent boost once again, putting the iPhone 17 Pro Max within striking distance of the faster-charging competition that has long dominated in this category.

ChargerLAB used fifteen different Apple chargers to measure the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s performance, and multiple adapters were able to hit the 36W ceiling. Apple’s new 40W Dynamic Power Adapter stood out as the most reliable option for reaching maximum speeds during wired charging. Apple’s MagSafe system also recorded strong results with a top speed of 32W, which is significantly quicker than what earlier generations achieved, but wired charging remains the best route for users who want every watt possible.

The latest Pro models also ship with larger batteries, and pairing that increase with higher charging speeds helps maintain the user experience. Bigger cells naturally take longer to fill, so Apple’s year-over-year improvements ensure the phones never feel slower to charge than the previous generation. Even if the difference is largely psychological, most users expect new devices to feel faster across the board, not just last longer.

Overall, Apple’s gradual but consistent approach to boosting charging performance is paying off. With the iPhone 17 Pro lineup now reaching 36W, users get quicker turnaround times without needing to rely on third-party accessories.
