A decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Vinesh Phogat's appeal was expected at 9:30pm on Saturday. However, as reported by Sportstar the CAS has decided to move the time limit further, allowing all parties involved to submit additional documents before the Sole Arbitrator, Dr. Annabelle Bennett AC SC (Australia), by 6pm Paris time Sunday.

A decision on the same is now expected on 6 p.m. (Paris time) on August 13.

Earlier on Friday, the CAS clarified that while it didn't allow the wrestler for a second weigh-in after failing to meet the weight cut, or reinstated her in the gold medal bout, it did agree to hear Vinesh's plea for a joint silver. The 29-year-old was disqualified for being 100 grams overweight before her gold medal bout in the 50kg category on Wednesday. She has appealed against the disqualification in CAS, requesting a joint silver medal before announcing her retirement from the sport.

Paris Olympics 2024 Day 15 Live: Neeraj Chopra said he wants the medal around Vinesh Phogat's neck for one simple reason -- "people shouldn't forget her."

"If she gets the medal, it would be very good. If things had not panned out the way they did, she would have had the medal. I hope she gets it because if you don't have it around your neck, that thing stays in your heart," the 26-year-old Chopra told reporters at 'India House' after a felicitation by IOC member and Reliance Foundation chairperson Nita Ambani.

"Today people might say that she is our champion but they will forget after a few days. Agar aisa na hota, a medal wouldn't have mattered. So, I hope she gets the medal. I just hope whether she gets the medal or not, people don't forget what she did for the country," he said.

Paris Olympics 2024 Day 15 Live: Despite a solid display of grappling by Reetika Hooda, who endured a defeat in the quarterfinals, India coach Virender Dahiya was not a happy man.

"You can't win bouts by just defence," the coach was quoted as saying by PTI. "Yes, she fought well but what's the point if your strong defence does not get you win. Reetika did not let her attack but she herself did not attack. You lose by one point, or 10 points, you lose. Reetika could have won this bout," he said.

Paris Olympics 2024 Day 15 Live: India shooter Sarabjot Singh, who won a mixed team bronze along with Manu Bhaker at the Paris Olympics, will not accept the position of Deputy Director in Haryana's Sports Department. "The job is good but I will not do it right now. I want to work on my shooting first. My family has also been asking me to get a decent job but I want to do shooting... I don't want to go against some decisions that I have made, so I cannot do a job right now," he said while speaking to reporters.

If we look at previous stats, India have a good record of securing bronze via repechage in wrestling.

Paris Olympics 2024 Day 15 Live: CAS released a statement, which stated that the verdict on Vinesh Phogat's appeal will be announced at 6pm local time (9.30pm IST) on Saturday.

"By application of Article 18 of the CAS Arbitration Rules form the Olympic Games, the President of the CAS Ad Hoc Division extends the time limit for the Panel to give a decision until 10 August 2024 at 18h00 (Paris time)," the statement read.

Paris Olympics 2024 Day 15 Live: After beating Hungary's Bernadett 12-2 via technical superiority, Reetika Hooda will now meet Kyrgystan's Aiperi Medet Kyzy in the 1/4 final bout. A win here will take her to the semifinal.

Paris Olympics 2024 Day 15 Live: On Saturday, Reetika Hooda will become the first Indian woman to represent India in the 76kg heavyweight wrestling category at the Paris Olympics.

Reetika used to compete in the 72kg event previously but it was a non-Olympic category. She has done exceptionally well in this division, securing a bronze at the Asian Championships last year.

However, she switched to 76kg to make a cut for the Paris Olympics. The transition has been successful so far. She won a gold at the U23 World Championships last year and securing the Paris 2024 quota at the Asian Olympic Qualifiers in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan in April 2024.

The Indian athletics campaign concluded on Friday as the men's 4x400m relay team narrowly missed out on the medal round, finishing fifth in their race and 11th overall in the qualification.

Wrestler Aman Sehrawat secured India's fifth bronze medal by defeating Puerto Rico's Darian Toi Cruz in the men’s freestyle 57kg category.
