A repechage round was introduced in Paris Olympics to all individual track events from 200m to 1500m, including the hurdles events. The new format replaced the earlier one where some athletes advanced to the semifinals through fastest times in addition to the top placings in the first round heats.

Instead, only the athletes in the top placings will get automatic qualification and all the remaining will get a second chance to qualify for the semi-finals by participating in repechage heats.

Lakshya first overcame the tough challenge of Jonatan Christie to make it to the round of 16, where he was pitted against fellow countryman HS Prannoy. The shuttler defeated his senior and then engaged in a grueling quarterfinal action against TC Chou of Chinese Taipei. However, Lakshya endured his first loss against reigning Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen on Sunday in the semifinal but he still has a shot at the bronze medal, which will be played at 6:00 in the evening on Monday as per IST.

It was a mixed day for India at the ongoing Paris Olympics. Lakshya Sen and Lovlina Borgohain could have assured India of two medals, however, they lost in their respective events as the medal tally still remains at three, two of which was won by Manu Bhaker. While Lovlina's campaign came to an end, Lakshya still has a shot at redemption and going by the form he is in, the 22-year-old might do something that most didn't expect, at least till the start of the Olympics.
