This pattern has characterised Charith Asalanka's first series as Sri Lanka’s full-time T20I captain. Asalanka himself has only managed scores of 0 and 14 in the two games. The top three batters have performed well in both matches, with Sri Lanka reaching scores of 140 and 80 by the time the second wicket fell. Pathum Nissanka is the series' leading run-scorer, Kusal Perera has scored a half-century, and Kusal Mendis made 45 in the first match. However, beyond these top three, the performance has been lacklustre, with Kamindu Mendis' 26 in the second T20I being the highest score from the middle and lower orders. Sri Lanka will need to address their middle-order issues and capitalise on the strong foundations laid by their top order.

India, having secured the series with commanding performances, will be looking to give batters such as Sanju Samson, Rinku Singh, and Riyan Parag more time in the middle, and there are few other concerns they need to address at this stage.

They had previously brought in Romesh Mendis for Dilshan Madushanka, as Charith Asalanka anticipated that spin would benefit from a used pitch. However, in the rain-affected game, Romesh was not utilised. Despite this match being played on a fresh pitch, Sri Lanka are likely to retain Romesh in the XI, as he also provides additional batting depth.

Having played two matches in quick succession, India may choose to rest one of their fast bowlers, with Khaleel Ahmed ready to step in. Washington Sundar might also get a chance if India continues with the approach of giving each squad member a game when possible, a strategy seen during Rahul Dravid's tenure.
