Archaeologists have discovered India’s biggest circular stone labyrinth ever recorded. It lies hidden in the Boramani grasslands of Solapur, Maharashtra. The site was spotted accidentally by wildlife researchers observing local fauna. Experts say it could date back over 2,000 years.

A Maze Bigger Than Expected

The labyrinth has 15 concentric circuits carved meticulously in stone. It measures approximately 50 feet by 50 feet, astonishing researchers. It's perfectly circular design is unmatched in India to date. Previously, the largest labyrinth in Tamil Nadu was square, not circular.

Who Built It and Why?

Experts link it to the Satavahana dynasty, flourishing in ancient India. Its design resembles patterns found on ancient Roman coins, suggestive connections. The archaeologists theorise it guided Roman merchants travelling inland from coastlines. The labyrinth may have been a navigational marker for traders.

A Hidden Connection to Ancient Trade

India’s western coast had active Indo-Roman trade routes centuries ago. Labyrinths like Boramani could indicate cultural exchanges with distant empires. Its discovery challenges assumptions about India’s urban and trade sophistication. It may rewrite what we know about ancient Indian commerce.

How It Was Found?

The site was first noticed by a wildlife NGO team. They were monitoring Great Indian Bustards and local wolf populations. The stone formation stood out amidst the tall Boramani grass. Archaeologists were called in to confirm its ancient significance.

Why This Discovery Shocks Experts?

This is India’s largest circular labyrinth, a record-breaking revelation. Its survival over two millennia is nothing short of miraculous. It connects wildlife, archaeology and ancient trade in a unique way.

Experts are now racing to document and preserve the site. The Boramani labyrinth shows that ancient India was more complex than imagined. A circular stone maze has silently survived, hiding history for centuries.
