Fans were taken aback when Rohit Sharma, who had taken a break from cricket, showed up for the October ODI series in Australia looking as fit and athletic as ever. Now that the home series against South Africa is quickly approaching, Rohit was seen with his Indian teammates once more. This time, he made it apparent that he was fully fit.
Rohit had lost all of the extra weight that had hindered him in his late 30s. Rather, when he warmed up and trained in Ranchi, he was muscular and trim, sending a clear message that he has no intention of giving up this format of cricket.

In order to finally win the coveted ODI world championship that he has never been able to celebrate, Rohit hopes to compete in the 2027 World Cup. But Rohit wants to make sure he offers the coaches and selectors no reason to try to take away his starting position since he knows he will be beyond 40 by the time that tournament arrives.
Social media and the internet responded to Rohit's new appearance, and there is no doubt that he comes to Ranchi with high expectations for what this new Rohit Sharma can accomplish.

Earlier, I could recognize Rohit Sharma from any distance even without seeing his face, but today I can’t recognize him without seeing his face. Next level workout on fitness @ImRo45pic.twitter.com/oCeczM04Kf— (@rushiii_12) November 28, 2025
After an impressive performance in Sydney, when he scored a ton in that famous stand with Virat Kohli in what is presumably their final competitive encounter on Australian soil, Rohit had a successful series in Australia and won player of the series. In contrast to the high-impact, extremely aggressive batting he had displayed in the run-up to the 2023 World Cup, Rohit did appear a little hesitant.
This version of Rohit is much closer to the player who once scored three ODI double-centuries, and there seems to be a desire to return to that particular vintage of one of India's greatest openers. Rohit's fitness will also focus on stamina and the ability to bat for longer innings and put up bigger scores.
