NASA issues urgent alert: 5 giant asteroids on a collision course with Earth today

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) is tracking five asteroids set to pass Earth on 9 December 2024. The asteroids—identified as 2024 WV51, 2024 XH3, 2024 XG10, 2024 XG2, and 2024 VE13—pose no threat to the planet. Their close proximity offers valuable opportunities for scientific observation and study.

Asteroid 2024 WV51 is approximately 110 feet wide, making it a significant object in space terms. There’s no need for concern as it will safely pass Earth at a distance of 433,000 miles—much farther than the Moon.

Asteroid 2024 XH3 is about 32 feet wide. Although its size classifies it as a notable object, it will safely pass by Earth at a distance of 576,000 miles.

Asteroid 2024 XG10, with an approximate width of 43 feet, will safely pass Earth at a distance of 1,230,000 miles.

Asteroid 2024 XG2 measures around 37 feet in width and will pass by Earth at a distance of 2,120,000 miles.

Asteroid 2024 VE13 is approximately 210 feet wide. It will safely pass Earth at a distance of 4,300,000 miles.

NASA’s JPL continues to monitor these five asteroids closely. Although none pose a threat to Earth, their proximity provides valuable opportunities for scientific research and observation. This close encounter underscores the importance of ongoing space monitoring and the need to better understand these celestial objects.
