In the early hours of December 12, Afghanistan experienced an earthquake registering 5.2 on the Richter Scale, as reported by the National Center for Seismology (NCS) on the microblogging site X (formerly Twitter). This seismic event followed a 4.4 magnitude earthquake in Fayzabad, Afghanistan, on December 11 morning, according to the NCS.
The NCS specified that the 5.2 magnitude earthquake on December 12 originated 120 km below the surface, with coordinates at latitude 36.33 and longitude 70.70.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties or property damage so far.
In a tragic event in October, a powerful 6.3 magnitude earthquake, along with significant aftershocks, claimed the lives of dozens of people in western Afghanistan, as disclosed by the country's national disaster authority. This devastating earthquake resulted in approximately 2,000 casualties, marking one of the deadliest seismic incidents in Afghanistan in the past two decades.
