BHU and KAL ink MoU to preserve medicinal herbs

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and Kerala Ayurveda Limited (KAL) have signed an MoU to carry out joint research into conservation and effective utilisation of medicinal herbs found in southern and northern parts of the country.

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and Kerala Ayurveda Limited (KAL) have signed an MoU to carry out joint research into conservation and effective utilisation of medicinal herbs found in southern and northern parts of the country.

"This is a unique experiment of putting the Public-Private Partnership model into practice," said D P Singh, Vice Chancellor of BHU.

A joint research in the field of ''geriatric care'' and on diseases like cancer, diabetes, cholera to name a few, will be carried out jointly under the PPP model. The joint exercise also mulls about documenting Ayurvedic medicines based on their potency, efficacy and safety, he said.

KAL, founded in 1945 by Late K G K Panicker, is a leading Ayurvedic company. It manages three Ayurvedic hospitals, thirty clinics and a resort in Bangaluru.

Dr K P Upadhyaya and Ramesh Wangal signed the MoU on behalf of BHU and KAL respectively.
