NASA astronaut Sunita Williams sent a Diwali greeting from the International Space Station, celebrating the festival 260 miles above Earth. In her message, Williams, who has spent almost five months on the ISS, reflected on her Hindu heritage and her father’s efforts to instill cultural traditions. Expressing gratitude for President Biden and Vice President Harris’ participation in Diwali celebrations, she highlighted the festival’s themes of hope and goodness. This unique greeting coincided with the White House’s Diwali event. Williams, aboard the ISS since June with astronaut Butch Wilmore, will continue her mission work until their February 2024 return.
