Former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle congratulated president-elect Donald Trump and vice president-elect Senator JD Vance for winning the US Presidential Elections 2024.
So far, Republican Trump has managed to secure 292 electoral votes against 226 of his Democrat rival Kamala Harris, and is leading with nearly 51 percent of the popular vote.
“Over the last few weeks and through the election day, millions of Americans cast their votes - not just for president, but for leaders at every level. Now the results are in and we want to congratulate President Trump and Senator Vance on their victory,” the Obamas said in a statement.

The former US president and the former first lady said the results are not what they had hoped for, but it is important to recognise that “our point of view won’t always win out”.
The Obamas further said that the problems facing the country are "solvable" only if we “listen to each other”.
Trump was elected president, capping a remarkable comeback four years after he was voted out of the White House and ushering in a new American leadership likely to test democratic institutions at home and relations abroad.
