Even as IT companies are looking to scale up hiring in the US as immigration laws are tightened under the Trump administration; the local government wants to ensure it does not happen at the cost of Indian employees.
In a first, the Telangana government has decided to intervene on reports of IT giant Cognizant laying off its employees and met with the company's management today to ensure that there no hit to its Hyderabad plans, reports CNBC-TV18 quoting sources.
Government seeks an amicable solution to reports of Cognizant laying off 6000 employees. However, the company indicated that they had performed a performance appraisal and that this was a normal procedure.
This was the cause of concern and so the IT body in the state asked the government to intervene. So, representatives of Labour ministry, IT officials attended the meeting.
Cognizant has plans for Rs 500 crore investment in the state and they already have 18000 employees in Hyderabad. They are looking to set up an 11-acre campus in coming months and plan to hire 8000 workers.
Sources say they plan to arrive at an amicable solution.
