Mumbai received public praise from Sergio Gor, the newly appointed United States Ambassador to India, during his first official visit to the city after assuming charge earlier this month. Gor shared his impressions of India’s financial capital on social media, highlighting its landmarks, street life, and coastal setting.
The comments came just days after Gor formally took charge as the 27th US Ambassador to India on January 12. Sharing a photograph from the Gateway of India, with the Arabian Sea visible in the background, the Ambassador described Mumbai as a city that leaves a lasting impression.
Posting on X Gor wrote, “Discover the enchanting beauty of Mumbai – a vibrant tapestry of bustling streets, iconic landmarks like the Gateway of India, and the sparkling Arabian Sea. Everyone must visit to feel its magic!”

The post quickly drew attention online, with many users welcoming the Ambassador and responding to his remarks about the city. Some netizens also offered their own views on what makes Mumbai unique.
One user wrote, “The Gateway is iconic, but the real magic is found in a hot Vada Pav at 2 AM. It’s a city that never sleeps, mostly because everyone is either too busy working or still trying to get home from the office. Once it gets into your blood, no other city feels quite as alive.”
Another congratulated him on his new role and said, “Congratulations on your appointment and best wishes for your tenure. Thank you for your kind words about Mumbai.”
A third user commented on Indian culture, writing, “The serenity of Indian culture is unmatched. Our culture, vibes, and speciality are a unique blend of consciousness & mindfulness. These connections enlighten us to lift up the core values integrated into our vibrant ecosystem. Our tenacity & resolves are integrated for the booming nostalgic euphoria. Love that. We Indians are observing your presence & hope our great legacy fosters more surplus bonding & mutual growth.”
A day before sharing the Gateway of India post, Sergio Gor visited the US Consulate in Mumbai as part of his first official trip to the city. Sharing an update from the visit, Gor wrote on X, “Excited to kick off my first visit to Mumbai with a visit to our Consulate! Our dedicated team working hard to bolster the US-India partnership.”
