A leader of Bharatiya Janata Party was caught on camera threatening an on-duty cop while voting was on in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur on Monday. BJP leader Suresh Awasthi can be seen telling the police officer that he would “deal with him tomorrow” and that the cop was on his "hit list".

In the video clip of the incident, which has now gone viral, Awasthi can be heard warning the circle officer with dire consequences, saying "will see you tomorrow, you are on my hit list".

He can also be heard asking the officer to not look him in the eyes, to which the officer responds with “do whatever you want”.

An altercation started between the two when a polling agent of the saffron party, who was sitting at the wrong area inside a Kanpur polling booth, was asked to move. When the circle officer on poll duty asked the agent to move, Awasthi intervened and began threatening the officer.

In the video, Kanpur’s incumbent Mayor Pramila Pandey can be seen trying to pacify Awasthi, with the help of some other BJP leaders present on spot. The infuriated BJP leader, however, keeps calling out the officer, dubbing him “a wicked person”.

On Monday, 13 of Uttar Pradesh’s 80 Lok Sabha seats, went to polls. The constituencies where elections were held this week were: Misrikh, Kanpur, Shahjahanpur, Unnao, Kannauj, Farukkhabad, Etawah, Akbarpur, Jalaun, Lakhimpur Kheri, Hardoi, Jhansi, and Hamirpur.
