Sidhu Moosewala's former finance manager and friend Bunty Bains on Tuesday narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Mohali. Bains was at Katani Dhaba in Sector 79 in Mohali when multiple shots were fired at him. He escaped unhurt and has filed a complaint, India Today reported.
Speaking to the publication, Bains -- who has been credited with shaping the careers of several prominent Punjabi singers including Moosewala --said that he received a threatening phone call after the attack, demanding Rs 1 crore from him.
He was told that failure to comply would lead to his death. The threat was allegedly made by Lucky Patial, a gangster who is believed to be operating from Canada and is known for his connections to other gangs involved in criminal activities across the state.
According to the police, an investigation is underway.
The attack on Bains comes two years after Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead by assailants on May 29, 2022, in Jawaharke village of Mansa district in Punjab. The 28-year-old singer was popular among the youth and was known to compose and produce his songs. He was also regarded as one of the wealthiest Punjabi singers.
The singer was killed a day after the state government pruned his security cover. The assailants had sprayed bullets on the 28-year-old after waylaying his vehicle. At least three weapons were used and thirty empty cases were found at the site. According to the autopsy report, Moosewalaprobably died "within 15 minutes" of receiving the injury.
The incident also followed the news of Moosewala's mother's pregnancy. Charan Kaur, 58, is expecting a baby in March, the family has confirmed.
