A Bengaluru techie recently shared his experience on social media after meeting two Rapido bike taxi drivers who surprised him. In both cases, the drivers, despite owning property and having stable jobs, continued to work as riders.
The tech professional, Ankit Sharma, posted about his experiences on Instagram. In the video, he explained that he discovered that his Rapido driver owned a two-bedroom flat worth over Rs 80 lakh and worked as a quality analyst for an international company.
On another occasion, Sharma met a different driver who ran a café and owned a house valued between Rs 60 and 70 lakh. When asked why he still worked as a Rapido rider, the driver responded that it was “fun to do.”
Sharma said in the clip, “Bengaluru is crazy. I’m not getting used to it, this has happened twice in a row with me. I was going in a Rapido, you know, the driver has a 2 BHK flat worth more than Rs 80 Lakhs. He is working in an international company as a quality analyst.”
He also added, “A similar thing had happened earlier, the guy had a cafe. He also has more than Rs 60–70 Lakh worth of house. I asked him why he is riding Rapido, and he said because it’s fun to do.”
Sharma’s post drew attention from social media users, many of whom shared similar experiences or commented on the unusual choice of these drivers. One user wrote, “It’s all about mindset, bro.” Another said, “Same, I heard that the person we take vegetables and fruits from said that he owns two houses, which are given for rent. I was like, what the hell, really.”

A third expressed, “That’s the reason they have flats. Want to ride and enjoy it but do not want to waste money on petrol.” One user warned him saying, “Don’t trust everything everyone says to you.”
For many, working as a Rapido rider is part of the gig economy, providing flexible income options. A few days ago, a Bengaluru resident had shared details of a four-day stint as a Rapido driver on Reddit.
Over this period, he worked 17 hours and covered approximately 200 kilometres. On the second day, the highest earning was Rs 750 for a five-hour shift. In total, he earned Rs 2,220 over the four days. After spending around Rs 400 on petrol, the net income was Rs 1,820.
